چکیده

The diversity and distribution of macrofaunal communities in the deep-sea bottoms Gulf Mexico (GoM) Mexican waters are poorly known compared to northern GoM. This study was designed contribute knowledge macrofauna through (i) evaluate taxonomic composition at major taxa level, (ii) analyze spatial patterns deep sea southwestern Benthic analyzed a large geographical area (92.67°–96.70° W 18.74°–23.04° N) bathymetric gradient (185-3740 m depth). Samples were collected on board R/V Justo Sierra (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) with Reineck-type box corer during oceanographic cruises SOGOM-3 SOGOM-4 carried out April 21–May 15, 2017, August 29–September 20, 2018, respectively. Thirteen environmental parameters measured (among them, depth, salinity, temperature, O2, sediment grain size, hydrocarbons, organic matter). Twenty-five registered SOGOM 3 (2315 individuals) all which observed 4 (1721 exception mollusk Class Solenogastres. average abundance (ind. -2 ) 517 (range: 150-1388 ind. ), 347 38-1088 for 3, 4, In Polychaeta, Nematoda, Amphipoda, Tanaidacea, Bivalvia contributed 75% total abundance, also most abundant representing 82% abundance. Highest south near coast, lowest one found deeper areas. Macrofauna decreased depth both cruises. High values intermediate depths west zones area. Both separated nMDS analysis. During dissolved oxygen, aromatic matter (%) variables related whereas, important one. fills gap covering whole range southern provides baseline useful compare polluted areas assessing impact chronic pollution and/or potential oil spill accidents.

Distribution, Abundance, and Diversity Patterns of the Thermoacidophilic “Deep-Sea Hydrothermal Vent Euryarchaeota 2”

Cultivation-independent studies have shown that taxa belonging to the "deep-sea hydrothermal vent euryarchaeota 2" (DHVE2) lineage are widespread at deep-sea hydrothermal vents. While this lineage appears to be a common and important member of the microbial community at vent environments, relatively little is known about their overall distribution and phylogenetic diversity. In this study, we e...

Size matters at deep-sea hydrothermal vents: different diversity and habitat fidelity patterns of meio- and macrofauna

Species with markedly different sizes interact when sharing the same habitat. Unravelling mechanisms that control diversity thus requires consideration of a range of size classes. We compared patterns of diversity and community structure for meio- and macrofaunal communities sampled along a gradient of environmental stress at deep-sea hydrothermal vents on the East Pacific Rise (9° 50' N) and n...

Spatial and temporal patterns of benthic macrofauna in Gorgan Bay, south Caspian Sea, Iran

We quantified the distribution, abundance and assemblage structure of macrofauna at 22 stations in Gorgan bay, seasonally in 2012-2013. Also, depth, temperature, salinity, DO, TOM and sediment particle size were measured in each station. The highest concentration of TOM was measured near the western littoral zone (10.22) while the mouth part and north-eastern area was characterized by the lowes...

Distribution, Diversity and Abundance of Benthic Foraminifera of the Northwstern Persian Gulf

During ROPME Winter Cruise 2006, twenty six surface sediment samples taken from the Northwestern part of the Persian Gulf at depths of 13-77m were analyzed for their foraminifera content. A total of 93 species of benthic foraminifera were found in the study area. The foraminifera assemblages were dominated by Ammonia beccarii, Spiroloculina excavata, S. depressa, Quinqueloculina dimidiata,...
